That’s all folks! Mitt Romney has officially secured the requisite number of delegates necessary to be crowned the Republican nominee in Tampa on the first ballot. A sigh of relief is being heard around the country, particularly from those anxious about the prospect of convention shenanigans.
The news was certainly welcome in Boston but changes little. Romney’s team has been working in concert with the Republican National Committee for several weeks after Chairman Reince Priebus, and a series of state chairs, declared Romney the presumptive nominee. In that time, the campaign and the committee have coordinated their communications, fund raising and political efforts, including large dollar events around the country. It proved to be just at the right time. Last quarter, Romney pulled up even with Obama on the fund raising front.
But now, it’s finally over and that matters.
